A machine vision enquiry should begin with the decision the system must make. Detecting a missing feature, locating a component and inspecting a surface are different tasks, even when they use similar cameras. Part variation, illumination, working distance and motion all influence whether a useful image can be obtained consistently.
Discuss vision sensors, camera-based inspection and the associated optical setup with SC Science. Provide representative images or sample parts, including acceptable variation and the defects that matter. State the field of view, available mounting space and line timing, together with the required output to the machine or operator. For a reflective or low-contrast surface, the lighting arrangement may need as much attention as the camera itself.
The first objective is a testable inspection requirement. Agree what counts as an acceptable part, how uncertain results are handled and which examples will be used for evaluation. Any proposed performance should be assessed using representative parts under the intended conditions. Product selection and integration responsibilities are defined for the application; no detection rate, dimensional accuracy or production outcome is implied before that evaluation. The result is a clearer basis for discussing equipment and the work needed to put it into use.
