Sputtering Targets

Specify deposition materials by composition, geometry and compatibility with your source.

Circular metal and ceramic deposition targets on a pale laboratory surface.

A sputtering target specification connects the film you want to study with the deposition equipment you use. Composition and purity matter, but so do target dimensions, thickness, backing arrangements and the limits of the sputtering source. A material description on its own is not enough to establish whether a target can be installed and operated as intended.

Discuss metal, oxide and other compound target requirements with SC Science, starting from your process objective and source drawings. State the nominal composition and how purity or impurities should be reported. For multi-element materials, provide the required composition basis and any acceptable tolerance. If bonding is needed, include the backing plate dimensions, cooling arrangement and operating constraints so that the target assembly can be reviewed as a whole.

For research procurement, the documentation requirement should be clear before an order is placed. Identify which composition, inspection and traceability records are needed for your work, and confirm what the proposed source can provide. The families shown here are routes into a technical enquiry, not a stock list. Material availability, achievable dimensions, bonding options and supporting documentation are confirmed against the specific requirement; deposition performance must be evaluated in the user's process.

Compound & Multi-element Targets

Submit the required nitride, carbide or multi-element composition for feasibility review, including composition basis and tolerances.

Backing Plates & Bonding

Treat target, bond and backing plate as one assembly. Include drawings and operating constraints when bonded supply is required.
